*** Fantastic viral campaign by the BBC

We are often asked to develop a ‘cool’ viral campaign. Unfortunately what a client sometimes sees as cool is not what the wider online community sees that way.

Examples of what are defintely not ‘cool’ in regards to viral campaigns are things like ‘Tell us your favourite flavour of potato chips and then ask you friends to do the same. It’ll be fun and you’ll be amazed at the results!’ or ‘Pass on the link to see a movie trailer related to our upcoming DVD release’ (Forget about the fact that the movie was actually released over 4 months ago and anyone remotely interested in the trailer has already seen it.).

There is a great article by Anthony Johnston written about this subject here to give you some more detail on campaigns that worked really well, as well as a few that bombed.

Digital comrades must unite to stop Big Kev’s planned internet censorship plan.

The Australian government is firmly committed to a mandatory filtering plan that could slow overall internet access down by up to 80%.

The plan that is designed to protect children from seeing disturbing material, would place Australia in the dubious company of China and Burma, in terms of free speech.

We must act before tens of millions of dollars are squandered on this ridiculous plan, that will put Australia’s civil liberties and digital economy, in serious question.

Join the Facebook Group – Australian ISP filtering plan is stupid!

Sampsonia Way

Google Street is a mixture of Google Earth and Google Maps allowing users to view their chosen cities on a street level. Now, the Google team and the residents in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania have brought the street Sampsonia Way to life. The 360 degree camera managed to capture the elaborate funny scenes featuring a marathon, a big roast chicken, a marching band and a sword fight! See the results at Street With A View.
