For all the hype about social media globally, in Australia you can count the number of comprehensive and clever social media campaigns on one hand.
Half hearted and toe-dipping campaigns are everywhere. Idiotic viral campaigns are seen as social, yet they only managed to raise ire
Just a little note to any company considering “going social”– setting up a twitter account and a Facebook fan page and then leaving it at that is a not a social media campaign, it’s window dressing.
Though said many times before, it’s always worth a repeat; social media is about engagement. It’s about bypassing gatekeepers and filters and speaking directly with your customers. It’s a shift that few companies understand and even fewer are prepared to embrace.
The future of interactive advertising is vast and ever-evolving. Billboards may soon turn into more than just static ads – companies like Motomedia and Quividi have come up with ways to implement sound, video and even vents to pump out scents to complement ads. (more…)
Make My Logo Bigger Cream is a great viral and satirical take on design by Agency Fusion. Order yours today! Make sure you pick up a can of Whitespace Eliminator too.
One of the most conflicting debate of all time in the design world. Are they completely separate from each other? Some say design could never be art because they exist to serve (for the most part) the commercial side of things. It’s all subjective really.
But when you see work from the likes of Peter Jaworowski, I think most people would agree that the distinction between the two is blurred. Check out more of his vibrant, hyper-surrealistic work and get inspired!
Photography and surfing. And no one does it better than Tasmanian photographer Stu Gibson. Not only does he capture some of the most amazing surf shots at places like Shipsterns Bluff but he has a unique take on capturing the beauty and power of my fav place, the ocean. What’s also impressive is how Stu has managed to establish an original look in an area many dabble.
He has a heap of new shots to check out so drop the tools and enjoy the pics.
We’re all doomed! Why? This super slick 11 minute narrated animation by Jonathon Jarvis does a fantastic job of explaining The Credit Crunch. Great for simpletons like myself, who can now finally understand what his accountant friends are talking about … sort of.
It’s a prime example of utilising digial media to explain a complex situation in ways words on paper just couldn’t.
Times are tough. We are all going down. The world is about to explode. It’s all been bad news. Well, here is some good news. If you are a grandmaster flash (that’s a well flash person with some design skills) or a midweight designer then maybe its time to get your folio together, fluff up the resume and apply. (No agencies please)

This is great! The cool people from Poke London decided to create their very own device called the Bakertweet to let bakeries inform their customers through Twitter when their baked goods are fresh from the oven. “This unique device consists of an Arduino board and Linksys Wi-Fi adapter which comes bundled in a bakery-proof, simple-to-use box. The included dial is used to scroll through a list of baked goods, while the button will send a pre-configured tweet with a Web-interface used to customize messages as well as include new products for your customers.”
You need to watch the video to be inspired – very smart indeed!
