U2.0

October 26, 2009

u20

One thing I have always loved about U2 has been their ability to evolve with the times. Today’s U2 webcast concert available as a stream through youtube was no exception. In an apparent world first, not only could you watch (live from pretty much anywhere in the world)  but you could comment (110,000+ comments), live tweet (probably in the millions by now), buy the new album (of course) and donate to their new cause (red). Before the stream had begun, social networking blogs, sites etc were doing their thing – for a more in-depth review with some stats click here. Like them or hate them (and obvously a lot of people are in the like), these guys sure know how to be quick to embrace the best the world has got to offer to spread their music and raise interest around a cause. Me, well this just makes me love em even more!

beer o'clock warm up

So.. my first week at igloo.

Well it was a bit of a whirlwind to say the least.

I was here not even 3 days before presenting web trends to Mazda. Mid presentation, who might happen to walk out onto our meeting room balcony? Natalie Imbruglia, in the office to record a demo thought she might attempt to disrupt my entrusting of knowledge to the masses.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a week at igloo if I didn’t tell you about Friday beer o’clock and the bocce competition that ensued. Well, I think i just did.

A bientôt..

epic1st day at igloo started with a beanbag throwing competition and Friday night ended with a ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ showdown to the 80′s classic “Jessie’s Girl” at the Palladium Ballroom, Crown Casino. In igloo’s defense, despite all singing in unison no one claimed full responsibility to neither knowing the lyrics nor recommending it on the play list.

Well if Australian workforces are all about diversity these days and pioneering new frontiers then igloo is well on track. As new Biz Dev Manager it certainly tested my dancing abilities, underdeveloped beanbag scoring techniques and belief that 80’s music is no longer retro and probably best left listening to on the metro.

To the demise of my credit card, igloo’s offices are conveniently located in close proximity to shopping Mecca Bridge Rd, Richmond. Whilst resisting my shopping urges I spent time planning our next BIG client – which involved looking up at the igloo sign and contemplating our Sydney strategy whilst educating Igloo CEO, Andrew Englisch in the musical talents of ‘Temper Trap’. In conclusion, I discovered it’s all about looking up and moving forward, after all we are digital pioneers that can recite the words to Rick Springfield classics.

My first week at Igloo gets a ten out of ten. It started with an inspirational all day workshop that looked at Igloo’s past and then focused on where we are going. The rest of the week was spent getting up to speed on projects and meeting my main client Crown Casino, who are lovely and have some exciting projects up their sleeves.

To my delight technology is seamlessly integrated into everything we do day to day, from collaborating on wikis to everyone being able to control a central iTunes library from their computers (thanks Dan). Not to mention the shiny new Mac that has arrived for me to play…I mean work…on.

The week ended with some drinks and djs playing tunes out on the deck before heading in to the Mazda Gala dinner at Crown Palladium, which was a glamorous and feel good night as many companies pitched in to donate money to all the great causes the Mazda Foundation supports.

a couple of years directly after completing university.

Jonny Schneider comes from Sensis where he was a Mobile Producer – the proverbial glue between product development; design/user experience; technical production. He rolled with Yellow Pages from it’s dawn on mobile, and along that three year journey Jonny got labelled one of ‘Australia’s top mobilists‘. Before mobile Jonny worked on digital projects at Heinz Australia and Talent2, and has also completed a Bachelor of Multimedia majoring in Design and Project Management.

Jonny has a passion for simplicity and elegance of design and believes it’s not worth doing if it’s not done properly. If he didn’t work at Igloo, Jonny would be a Typeface Designer in the 1960s, looking over Adrian Frutiger’s shoulder.
He also used to build engines at General Motors Holden, every ninety seconds one rolled off the assembly line.

VIDEOGIOCO

I just have to share this! Have a look at this awesome flipbook style 2D cartoon animation by Donato Sansone. Such a simple medium but done in a brilliant innovative way! Turn up your volume to get to get into the real action fighting sequence. Be warned, it can get pretty gruesome.
