I just finished up Day 1 at The Advertising, Marketing and Media Summit 2009, currently on in Melbourne. Not surprisingly, a lot of the keynote speakers were covering digital, which was my particular interest in attending. It seems, that increasingly all marketing roads are ‘leading to digital’ and this is supported by igloo creative director Tony, who sent me a great quote – “there is no such thing as digital marketing anymore; it’s marketing.”

Anyhow, I thought that I would distill down the headline points that I found particularly interesting. Looking forward to Day 02 and hearing from Brady Jacobsen who will provide his prediction on Twitter. Andrew Englisch – CEO, igloo http://twitter.com/AndrewEnglisch

  1. Saved us the tramfare!
    I question Joe Barbers comment about 50% of people accessing site by mobile. Recent experience has shown me that people (esp young people) can’t all be expected to have mobiles that can browse the web. It will happen, no doubt about that, but by next year?

  2. iPhone has brought mass market appeal to surfing the web on your phone, especially in youth market. I have seen a developing trend in clients asking about simplified mobile device sites, as well as their feature site, to give consumers key information they require when on the go.

  3. Nice sharp summary, thanks.

    Did you go to the second day? I only had enough time to check out the BMW session, which was fantastic.

    @tony
    I’m interested in the uptake of mobile consumtion, from what I’ve seen sites with non-mobile versions get at most 0.3% traffic from mobiles. However, it is changing rapidly due to iPhones and what not.

    A study in Australia found that 75% of Australians see themselves using their mobile for internet access and applications in 2009.

    Thanks for your comments. I am hoping to blog Day 2′s highlights in the next couple of days. Stay tuned!.
    I agree, the BMW presentation was a standout. The Presets remix certainly helped.
